Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Kathryn Mielke, age 50 of Inver Grove Heights, pled guilty today to two counts of Assault in the Second Degree (Dangerous Weapon) in connection with an incident that occurred on October 22, 2015 when Inver Grove Heights police responded to a request to check the welfare of Mielke at her home. Judge Martha Simonett scheduled the sentencing for April 29, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in Hastings.
Backstrom stated that around 3:00 p.m. a neighbor of Mielke called police to report that Mielke was drinking and making suicidal comments. As police arrived, she was agitated and would not respond to requests to speak with law enforcement. At one point she fired eight gun shots. As a precaution, police evacuated several nearby homes and advised an elementary school to go on lockdown. Around 5:00 p.m. Mielke came out of her home and was taken into custody.
