Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Caycee Lynn Bregel, age 25 of Castle Rock Township, will not be charged today. Bregel was arrested by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office on May 9, 2018, after Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant on Ms. Bregel’s rural rental home near Farmington and found dozens of dead cats and numerous live cats and several other animals on this property. The matter remains under investigation and she has been released from custody at this time.
Backstrom commented: "We take claims of animal abuse very seriously. Further investigation is needed to determine the cause of these cats’ deaths and who is responsible."
Sheriff Tim Leslie added: "We will continue to work on this complex and important investigation with the County Attorney’s Office and the Animal Humane Society."
The Humane Society has taken control of the animals found on this property.
