Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Ihar Daniliuk, age 44 of Eagan, (pronounced E-har Danna-lick) has been charged* today with one count each of Criminal Vehicular Operation Resulting in Great Bodily Harm and Criminal Vehicular Operation Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm in connection with a crash that injured two individuals at a Starbucks on August 19, 2019, in Eagan.
A summary of the allegations contained in the criminal complaint is set forth below:
On the evening of August 19, 2019, Eagan police officers responded to a report of vehicle that had driven into a Starbucks business, seriously injuring two people. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle with its front-end inside the building. An officer made contact with Daniliuk, who admitted to driving the vehicle. The officer noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Dahiliuk. Prior to the administration of the field sobriety tests, Daniliuk admitted to consuming alcohol two hours previously and agreed to provide a preliminary breath test which revealed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.18. Daniliuk was then transported to the hospital to address injuries he sustained in the crash to his foot.
Daniliuk stated he went to a nearby grocery store and as he was parking his vehicle in a parking spot, he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. Upon hitting the gas, he accelerated over the curb. This in turn caused his foot to push harder on the gas pedal, further accelerating his vehicle into the coffee shop. Daniliuk stated he hit a young female and male who were sitting at a table outside the coffee shop. When he realized he hit them, he said he ran out of his vehicle to try to help them.
Two individuals sustained substantial injuries as a result of the collision and they were located on the ground inside the coffee shop. They were transported to the hospital where they received medical attention. Many other individuals were present in the coffee shop at the time of the collision and witnessed Daniliuk drive his vehicle into the business.
The female victim sustained multiple lacerations to her face that required stitches, glass was found in her leg, and the fibula in her right leg was broken. The male victim sustained a broken leg, three broken ribs, a fractured spine, internal bleeding, and a dislocated hip. The full extent of his injuries are still being evaluated.

Backstrom commented: “This appears to be another example of impaired driving which has caused serious injuries to two individuals in our community." Backstrom extended his best wishes to those injured in this crash and his hope that they both make a full recovery.
Backstrom thanked the Eagan Police Department and other first responders for their prompt response and investigation of this crash.
Daniliuk made his first appearance in court today and bail in the amount of $150,000 without conditions ($25,000 with conditions) was set by Dakota County District Court Judge Christopher Lehmann. His next court appearance is set for September 18, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings. If you have questions, contact James Backstrom at 651-438-4440.
