Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced that Jerome Deshawn Misters, age 36 of Newport, Minnesota has been convicted of Second Degree Intentional Murder and Attempted Second Degree Intentional Murder related to the shooting of two men during the early morning hours of August 17, 2020, in South St. Paul. Misters fatally shot Matthew Perkins, age 33 of St. Paul, and seriously injured a 36-year-old male from Bayport. The jury deliberated for approximately 90 minutes. The sentencing date for Misters is September 15, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. in Hastings.

Keena commented: “I wish to express my gratitude to the witnesses who came forward and helped police identify Mr. Misters and who tesitifed at his trial. I am grateful for the jury's verdict in this matter and that Mr. Misters will be held accountable for his actions."
Keena expressed her sympathy to the family and friends of Matthew Perkins and her best wishes for the second victim's full recovery. Keena praised Assistant Dakota County Attorneys Dain Olson and Evan Frazier who prosecuted the case. Keena thanks the South St. Paul Police Department, the West St. Paul Police Department, the Inver Grove Heights Police Department, the Mendota Heights Police Department, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, the Dakota County Drug Task Force, the Dakota County Electronic Crime Unit, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Minnesota State Patrol, the K9 units from the ATF, the Bloomington Police Department and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office who all assisted in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
