Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Nicholas Anthony Indehar, age 22, of Inver Grove Heights, pled guilty today to one count of Criminal Vehicular Homicide (Negligence/Under the Influence) in connection with a fatal crash that took place in Inver Grove Heights on October 24, 2015, resulting in the death of Kim Marie Caswell, age 42, of Roseville. Judge Patrice Sutherland sentenced Indehar to 50 months in prison. Indehar was also ordered to pay restitution. The second count of Criminal Vehicular Homicide (Gross Negligence) was dismissed.
On October 24, 2015, around 3:00 p.m., a car driven by Nicholas Indehar drove through a stop sign at a high rate of speed crashing into a vehicle driven by the victim. The victim’s car was pushed into a utility pole which then cracked in half and fell on top of the her vehicle. Several witnesses rushed to the crash scene and tried to help before police and fire personnel arrived at the scene. Xcel Energy had to shut off the power lines before rescue personnel could reach the victim. When they were able to do so, unfortunately the victim was deceased.
Officers at the scene noticed that Indehar had bloodshot and watery eyes and an odor of alcohol, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.

Backstrom commented: ““We are pleased to have brought this man to justice for this senseless crime on our roads.” Backstrom extended his sympathy to the family and friends of Kim Caswell for their great loss.
Backstrom praised Assistant County Attorney Tricia Loehr, who prosecuted this case. Backstrom thanked the Inver Grove Heights Police Department who assisted in this case for their quick and thorough investigation and the Minnesota State Patrol who also assisted.
