Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Lucifer Vincent Nguyen, age 45, of New Hope, pled guilty late today to one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Intentional) and two counts of Aggravated Robbery in the First Degree in connection with a home invasion armed robbery, entry into a senior care facility and office building while fleeing from the police and the murder of Beverly Cory, age 48 of Maplewood, an employee of one of the businesses located in the office building. These crimes occurred on July 29, 2017 in Mendota Heights.
Backstrom commented: "Under this plea agreement, Lucifer Nguyen will be sentenced to over 45 years in prison. If he complies with all requirements of his confinement, he could be released under supervision following 30 years in prison."
Judge Christian Wilton set the sentencing hearing for Friday, May 11, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in Hastings.

On behalf of everyone involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case, Backstrom expressed his deep sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of Beverly Cory for their great loss and his continuing concern for the well-being of the other victims involved in this case.
Backstrom thanked Assistant County Attorney Kathy Keena who prosecuted the case. Backstrom also thanked the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the Electronic Crimes Unit Task Force, the Mendota Heights Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshal’s Office and all other law enforcement agencies that assisted in this investigation and apprehension of Nguyen.
