Charges Filed in Connection with Apple Valley Traffic Fatality

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Salomon Galacia Adorno, age 32 of Farmington, has been charged with Careless Driving, a misdemeanor, in connection with a traffic fatality that had occurred on December 2, 2012 in Apple Valley.

On December 2, 2012, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Apple Valley police and Minnesota State Patrol responded to a crash on Cedar Avenue (Highway 77) in connection with a two vehicle crash that had occurred. Salomon Adorno was driving a GMC full size van southbound on Cedar Avenue near the intersection of McAndrews Road when he lost control of his vehicle, swerving first slightly to the right, then abruptly to the left as if he were over-correcting. His vehicle then collided with a guard rail surrounding the bridge pillar at McAndrews Road, went airborne and landed on its side in the left lane of northbound Cedar Avenue. A southbound Chevrolet Tahoe then collided with Adorno’s overturned vehicle. As a result of this collision, Inocencio Munoz-Gutierrez, age 26, died from the injuries he sustained. Adorno was trapped inside the GMC van and suffered non-life threatening injuries. Three occupants of the Tahoe sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Additional facts pertaining to this case can be found in the criminal complaint which is located online at To view prior news releases, go to

Backstrom stated that Salomon Adorno was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of this collision. Absent gross negligence, which has been determined not to have occurred in this instance, the felony charge of Criminal Vehicular Homicide cannot be proven in such a situation.

Backstrom commented: “This appears to be another tragic example of distracted driving that has claimed a life on our state’s roads.”

Backstrom thanked the Minnesota State Patrol and the Apple Valley Police Department who assisted in this case for their quick and thorough investigation and expressed his sympathy to the family and friends of Inocencio Munoz-Gutierrez for their great loss.

Salomon Adorno is being summoned into court to face this charge. It is expected his first court appearance will be in 3-4 weeks.
