Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Lucifer Vincent Nguyen, age 44, of New Hope has been indicted by a Dakota County Grand Jury in connection with the death of an employee of one of the businesses located in a Mendota Heights office building which occurred on July 29, 2017. The victim was 48-year-old Beverly Cory of Maplewood. The Dakota County Grand Jury has issued an indictment charging Nguyen with the offenses of: Murder in the First Degree (Premeditated), Murder in the First Degree (While Committing Aggravated Robbery); Murder in the Second Degree (Intentional) and Murder in the Second Degree (While Committing Aggravated Robbery).
Additional facts pertaining to this case can be found in the original criminal complaint filed in this matter on July 31, 2017 (which is now superseded by this Indictment and two separate criminal complaints filed on October 12, 2017). On October 12, 2017 two separate complaints were filed charging Nguyen with multiple crimes relating to incidents which immediately preceded the death of Beverly Cory. These charges are listed below:
I-Burglary in the 1st Degree (Occupied Dwelling)
II-Burglary in the 1st Degree (Dangerous Weapon)
III-Aggravated Robbery in the 1st Degree
IV-Assault in the 2nd Degree (Dangerous Weapon)
V-Kidnapping (To Facilitate Felony or Flight)(Safe Release Without Great Bodily Harm)
I-Burglary in the 1st Degree (Dangerous Weapon)
II-Aggravated Robbery in the 1st Degree
III-Assault in the 2nd Degree (Dangerous Weapon)
IV-Kidnapping (To Facilitate Felony or Flight)(Safe Release Without Great Bodily Harm)
On behalf of everyone involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case, Backstrom expressed his deep sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of Beverly Cory for their great loss and also expressed his continuing concern for the well-being of the other victims involved in these cases.
Backstrom thanked the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the Mendota Heights Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Blaine Police Department, the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the Dakota and Washington County SWAT Teams, the Dakota County Electronic Crimes Unit, and all other law enforcement agencies that assisted in the investigation and search for the Defendant.
Nguyen will make his first court appearance on this Indictment and these two Criminal Complaints on October 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Hastings.
