Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Brian David Hiltner, age 28 of Eagan, has been charged* with one count of Controlled Substance Crime in the First Degree Possession with Intent to Sell marijuana in connection with the execution of a search warrant at a home in Lakeville.
The criminal complaint alleges that on January 31, 2018, law enforcement officers assigned to the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force, with the assistance from the Lakeville Police Department, executed a search warrant on a Lakeville residence. Officers recovered over two hundred one pound plastic vacuum sealed bags of marijuana and $26,000 dollars in cash. Officers also recovered over several hundred containers containing "wax" and over 50 pounds of candy like "gummies" containing concentrated tetrahydracannibols (THC).
Additional facts pertaining to this case can be found in the criminal complaints which are located online at: https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/LawJustice/CriminalComplaint/Pages/default.aspx. If in custody, mug shots can be viewed at: https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/LawJustice/Jail/Pages/default.aspx.
Backstrom commented, "This case involves the large scale distribution of marijuana. Gummies and other edibles are of great concern as they are manufactured with varying levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana. When products are shaped like candy, there is a not only a greater concern of possible overdose, there is also the concern that children will accidentally ingest them."
Backstrom thanked the Lakeville Police Department and the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force for their quick response and thorough investigation of this case.
Hilton made his first court appearance on these charges today, and bail was set in the amount of $50,000 without conditions ($5,000 with conditions) by Judge Arlene Perkkio. His next court appearance was set for February 22, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in Hastings.
