Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Daiquawn Michael Burrell-Smith, age 21 of St. Paul, was sentenced late Friday by Judge David Knutson to 75 months in prison in connection with an armed robbery spree that took place in Apple Valley, Eagan and Burnsville in Dakota County on October 10, 2018. Burrell-Smith pled guilty last December to three counts of Aggravated Robbery in the 1st Degree, and one count of 1st Degree Burglary with a Dangerous Weapon.

Two others were also charged* with multiple felonies. The case against Jared Otha Washington, age 27 of Minneapolis, is still pending. A 17-year-old male of Minneapolis, pled guilty as an Extended Juvenile Jurisdiction (EJJ) last November to three counts of Aggravated Robbery in the First Degree and one count of Attempted Aggravated Robbery in the First Degree. His case was sent to Hennepin County for disposition where he will remain on probation until October of 2022.
Backstrom commented: “We are pleased to have brought the defendant in this case to justice in this series of armed robberies that terrorized multiple victims in Apple Valley, Eagan and Burnsville."
Backstrom praised Assistant County Attorney Mary Russell who prosecuted the case. Backstrom thanked the Apple Valley, Eagan and Burnsville Police Departments for their investigation into this matter (which was led by the Apple Valley Police Department) and other responding law enforcement agencies.
