Sheriff Leslie is pleased to announce three promotions that were formally celebrated on Friday, August 3, 2018, for Dakota County Sheriff's employees.
Jim Gabriel was promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Gabriel has been a member of the office since 2000. He has served in several different positions and his most recent assignment is to the Investigation Division. He is also a past member of the Dakota County MAAG Team and was a use of force trainer for the office for many years.
Dawanna Witt has promoted to the rank of Captain. She holds a Master's Degree in Public Safety and Administration, and another in Management. She has served the office in numerous roles, including Explorer advisor, crisis negotiator, patrol sergeant, liaison to the inclusion diversity leadership, recruitment lead, and internship coordinator, to name a few.
Sergeant Matt Regis began his career as a correctional deputy in the jail and was later promoted to the rank of deputy sheriff. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Police Science from St. Mary's University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the same institution.
Sheriff Leslie noted that these three deputies have combined experience of nearly 50 years. They are hard-working and dedicated, and he is looking forward to their contributions to the office's senior command staff.
