The Dakota County Historical Society will host haunting events at the Sibley Historic Site and LeDuc Historic Estate this October.
Sibley Haunting - Sibley Historic Site - Saturday, Oct. 13
The Sibley Haunting event will start at 7 p.m. The Sibley Historic Site is located at 1357 Sibley Memorial Highway in Mendota, Minn.
Admission to the Sibley Haunting is $10 a person, or $8 for DCHS members and students ages 17 and under. Each tour is capped at 15 people. Pre-registration is not required, but without it, we cannot guarantee a spot on your desired tour time.
As the day draws to a close, the lights at the Sibley Site will go out for tours. Tours begin on the half-hour at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Registration for the event will be held in the DuPuis House. Your group will depart by flashlight to a dimly lit Sibley house, where visitors will explore the history of the site as an art school. After hearing from characters related to the site’s history, you will be given clues that can be used at the end to answer a question. Some of the content may not be suitable for children under the age of 13.
Once the event is over, visitors are invited to stick around the site to make s’mores at the bonfire.
Harvest Haunting & Candlelit Tours - LeDuc Historic Estate - Saturday, Oct. 20
The Harvest Haunting event will start at 5 p.m. and the Candlelit Tours will begin at 7 p.m. The LeDuc Historic Estate is located at 1629 Vermillion Street in Hastings, Minn.
Admission to Harvest Haunting is $6 a person, or $25 for a family. The Candlelit Tours admission is $10 for adults and $6 for ages 17 and under.
Harvest Haunting is a family-friendly event that is fun for all ages. The peak of autumn will be celebrated with fresh apple cider, made from LeDuc apples and its authentic apple cider press. There will also be seasonal children’s activities as well as a crackling fire with S’mores and scary stories.
As the day draws to a close, the lights in the house will go out for Candlelit Tours. Tours begin on the hour at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. During the candlelit tour through the dimly lit house, visitors will explore the history of Victorian spiritualism and séances, hear haunting tales and eerie sounds from the ghosts of LeDuc’s past. After hearing from each ghost, you will be given a clue that can be used at the end to answer a question. Some of the content may not be suitable for children under the age of 13.
