Books From Our Shelves is a new quarterly book club that will meet and discuss a variety of history books that can be found in the gift shops of the Dakota County Historical Society's sites. The books can be purchased at each site, or via the organization's online store.
“Minnesota, 1918: When Flu, Fire, and War Ravaged the State" explores the year 1918, when Minnesota residents were confronted with a series of devastating events that put communities to the test. It forced them to persevere through untold hardships. First, the nation was involved in World War I, followed by the influenza pandemic and devastating fires in seven counties of northeastern Minnesota. Author Curt Brown, a journalist and author, explores this monumental year through a variety of engaging stories.
Books From Our Shelves will meet on April 18, July 18 and Oct. 17, 2019. For more information and to view a complete list of the books for discussion, please visit the Dakota County Historical Society website.
