The Dakota County Historical Society will host “Walt Whitman and the Civil war” by George Romano at the LeDuc Historic Estate in Hastings on Saturday, July 13. The presentation will be part of the LeDuc Estate’s “Coffee with the General” series. The event will be held in the LeDuc Historic Estate’s Parlor from 2–4 p.m.
Admission to the event is $5 per person or $3 for members of the Dakota County Historical Society. The LeDuc Historic Estate is located at 1629 Vermillion Street in Hastings. Registration is limited. Walt Whitman is known as one of the greatest American poets of the 19th century and is possibly the most quoted poet ever. While a great poet, Whitman played a role in America’s Civil War that made him not just a great poet, but great American. Attendees will hear Whitman’s story, remember his poetry and his role in the Civil War.
Romano grew up 20 minutes from the Chickamauga Battlefield site in northwest Georgia. He is past president of the Rochester Civil War Roundtable and has presented at other roundtables throughout the Twin Cities, Winona, Mankato and more.
