A new residential organics drop-off site will open Oct. 1 at the Lakeville Water Treatment Facility, 18400 Ipava Ave. Dakota County residents will be able to bring organics, such as food scraps and paper towels, to the site for free. All registered participants will receive helpful tips and free compostable bags to use at home. Sign up by visiting the Organics Recycling page.
Residents can also call 952-891-7557 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This is the fourth drop-off location available to all Dakota County residents. Existing locations include Thompson County Park in West St. Paul, Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan and The Mulch Store, a commercial compost facility in Rosemount.
Organics drop-off sites go beyond backyard composting. All food waste, including meat, bones and dairy products, can be dropped off. The Mulch Store processes the materials at higher temperatures to kill bacteria and turns them into nutrient-rich compost.
