A new residential organics drop-off site will open May 1 at The Mulch Store in Rosemount. Dakota County residents will be able to bring organics, such as food scraps and paper towels, to the site for free. This is the third drop-off location available to all Dakota County residents in addition to existing locations at Thompson County Park in West St. Paul and Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan.
All registered participants will receive free compostable bags to use at home and helpful tips. Sign up by calling 952-891-7557, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or visiting the Organics Recycling page.
More materials are accepted at the organics drop-off locations than can be placed in backyard composting. Residents can bring meat, bones, dairy products and certified-compostable products to the drop-off locations. The Mulch Store, a commercial compost facility, processes the materials at higher temperatures to kill bacteria and turns them into compost.
