The public is invited to celebrate the opening of the Pine Bend Bluffs Trailhead along the Mississippi River Greenway from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. The trailhead is located on 111th Street at Courthouse Boulevard in Inver Grove Heights.
The trailhead offers year-round visitor services, including restrooms, a picnic area, bike fix-it station, interpretive information and other amenities. The trailhead also provides access to the Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area. Visitors can bike or walk the greenway to enjoy a restored prairie, wildflowers, birding and scenic views of the Mississippi River. The greenway is a 26-mile route that eventually will connect South St. Paul to Hastings.
The grand opening will include a free community bike ride beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Pine Bend Elementary School, 9875 Inver Grove Trail, and arriving at the trailhead for a 6 p.m. ribbon-cutting celebration. Activities at the trailhead will include interpretive activities will include park and outdoor activities, historical interpretation and an ice cream social.
The all-ages event is free. Parking is available at the elementary school for those riding to the trailhead and near the trailhead for non-bicyclists.
