The Dakota-Scott Workforce Development Board recently elected Pam Oeffler as board chair and Vance Boelter as vice chair. Oeffler is human resources director at The Smead Manufacturing Company in Hastings. Boelter is general manager of Marathon Speedway in St. Paul Park.
Oeffler said she looks forward to working with board members, businesses, educators and community organizations to address workforce challenges and opportunities.
“With unemployment rates at record lows, we need to help employers look beyond traditional methods to fill vacancies," she said. “We also need to help job seekers gain the skills necessary to find employment where they can thrive and prosper."
Boelter said the Workforce Development Board can have a positive impact on many people in Minnesota.
“When our economy has strong year-over-year growth over 100 programs that depend on tax dollars for funding help countless people that live all around us," Boelter said. “Small and large businesses that generate the bulk of those tax dollars need a well-trained workforce, so they can keep growing. As companies are profitable and expand so do the wages and opportunities for the Minnesota workforce, so it's a real win- win."
The Workforce Development Board oversees employment programs within Dakota and Scott counties, including CareerForce locations in Burnsville, West St. Paul and Shakopee. It consists of 27 members representing the public and private sectors. For more information call 651-554-5633.
