County Road 42 (Mississippi Trail) will be reconstructed from just northeast of Highway 55 to Lock Boulevard in Nininger Township. The reconstruction includes a slight roadway alignment shift, addition of paved shoulders, left and right turn lanes or bypass lanes, new bituminous pavement, and improved ditches to infiltrate and convey stormwater drainage.

Work on the roadway will be in two stages. Stage one will be from Highway 55 to Idell Avenue. Stage two will be from Idell Avenue to Lock Boulevard. County Road 42 is now closed from Highway 55 to Idell Avenue. The detour will use Highway 55, Highway 61 and Pleasant Avenue. Spring Lake Park Reserve is accessible from Highway 55 to Pleasant Avenue to County Road 42 to Idell Avenue. See detour map.
Access to residences will remain open throughout construction. Access will either be from the east or the west, depending on where the contractor is working.
The western portion of the project remains closed as the contractor continues to reconstruct that section of the roadway. The work is taking place in sections of about 1,500 feet. The existing roadbed is excavated deep enough to place a sand subbase and a rock base. As they go, the contractor will install storm sewer across the road and driveway culverts in that section. The contractor is finishing up the aggregate base on the west section and will continue grading to the east. Curb and gutter will also be poured next week.
