Dakota County is working with Minnesota Department of Transportation and City of Inver Grove Heights to reconstruct the existing all-way stop intersection of 70th Street & South Robert Trail to an urban roundabout with pedestrian/bike accommodations in spring 2018.
The purpose of the project is to reduce existing delays in traffic flow due to the existing four-way stop condition and to allow for more efficient traffic flow in the future as traffic volumes increase.
Analysis shows the delays at this intersection justify a new traffic control, which is also supported by citizen complaints received. This intersection has been operating in its current all-way stop condition since 1998.
Preliminary layout approved: Completed January 2017
Road design: Completed June 2018
Award project: August 2018
Close East leg: September 2018
Close intersection: Spring 2019
The Inver Grove Heights Highway 3 roadway improvements at 65th Street will start before the County Road 26 & Highway 3 intersection improvement project. Highway 3 Roadway Improvements at 65th Street close Highway 3 in July 2018 until November 2018. The County Road 26 intersection will provide access to the business and residents between 65th and 70th Street. For the intersection County Road 26 & Highway 3 intersection the east leg will be closed for 6-8 week beginning in mid-August to perform the deep sanitary sewer crossing. The intersection will close next spring April/May of 2019 to construct the roundabout.
