Dakota County, in cooperation with the City of Rosemount, is proposing to reconstruct and pave Akron Avenue (County Road 73) from Bonaire Path to the Rosemount/Inver Grove Heights city limits.
Akron Avenue is a north-south gravel roadway in central Dakota County that connects Rosemount to Inver Grove Heights and provides an alternative north-south route to Highway 3 in Rosemount. This segment of Akron Avenue was included in the Pine Bend Arterial Connector Study and is identified for future realignment due to potential growth in the area. Akron Avenue is currently a two-lane gravel roadway. The roadway has no shoulders, turn lanes or pedestrian accommodations.
The proposed project will include the reconstruction and paving of Akron Avenue. Shoulders will be added along the entire segment and turn lanes will be included at appropriate intersections. Pedestrian and bicycle facilities will be evaluated along the corridor, and the project will also evaluate potential accommodations for the proposed Rosemount Greenway. The project will improve safety and reduce maintenance needs along Akron Avenue.
The City of Rosemount is also planning an improvement project in the area.
