Dakota County is proposing to reconstruct 240th Street to a paved 2-lane highway from Highway 3 to Blaine Avenue (County Road 79). The roadway is more than 60 years old and will require increased maintenance effort until it is reconstructed. Improving the roadway to current safety standards will reduce the risk for crashes. These improvements includes curves, sideslopes, shoulder width and adding turn lanes where needed. The project is in the preliminary design phase and scheduled for construction in 2020.
The new roadway will improve safety and provide for existing and future traffic. Finding a safe and efficient way to connect 240th Street with 245th Street will also be a part of the design process. Alignment alternatives will be evaluated based on safety, mobility, farmland impacts, residential impacts, implications for township roads and cost. The alternatives and evaluation will be available at the open house for stakeholders to review and comment on.
