Dakota County and the City of West Saint Paul are working together on the design and construction of sidewalk and trail improvements along Thompson Avenue from Robert Street (Highway 3) to Waterloo Avenue and along Oakdale Avenue from Wentworth Avenue to Butler Avenue in West Saint Paul.
Along Thompson Avenue, the project includes construction of sidewalk on the north side and a 10-foot wide multi-use trail on the south side. Along Oakdale Avenue the project includes sidewalk on the west side and a 10-foot wide multi-use trail on the east side. The project will also include reconstruction of a portion of trail that connects to the trail system of Thompson County Park as part of the River to River Greenway.
This project will fill two high-priority trail gaps identified in the 2018 Dakota County Pedestrian & Bicycle Study. Trail and sidewalk construction at the intersection of Thompson Avenue and Oakland Avenue will be coordinated with plans for a future roundabout at that intersection. Design and engineering work for the project is ongoing with construction planned for 2023.
