In 2009-2010, Dakota County partnered with federal, state and local agencies to develop a transportation vision for northeast Eagan and northwest Inver Grove Heights.
The
2010 Regional Roadway System Visioning Study identified long-term transportation needs for growth in the area.
The study recommended new roadway connections, lane additions to existing roadways, interchange improvements, and a new interchange at I-494 and Argenta Trail. This study did not identify project timelines or funding for improvements.
Since the 2010 study, the area developed with different land uses than predicted in 2010. Several roadway projects have also been planned and implemented, including the current Lone Oak Road/70th Street W. and Argenta Trail construction.
See more information on planning efforts on Alverno Avenue and Argenta Trail.
The study update will:
- Assess the existing conditions, including changes since the previous study
- Consider safety, traffic congestion, land use, development, system connectivity and cost effectiveness
- Revisit the recommended improvements from the previous study and identify changes
The update will recommend improvements, including future interchanges that support growth and development, meet local and regional transportation needs, and limit impacts on fully developed communities.
