By Minnesota law, information provided in applying for a library card (except name) as well as information which links a name with library materials is private.
Other than with a valid court order, this information is available only to the applicant, to the parents or guardians of a minor, and to appropriate library personnel. This information is required to support library services.
For patrons under the age of age 18, information about materials requested, checked out, or kept overdue is available to a parent or guardian. However, a minor may ask to have this information withheld from a parent or guardian by filling out a data privacy request form. This request will be turned over to the County Attorney’s office for a final decision.
