About the performer
Minnesota flamenco pioneer Michael Hauser is the son of two Minnesota artists, sculptor Alonzo Hauser and modern dancer Nancy Hauser. Alonzo and Nancy enjoyed played recordings of flamenco at home, and the music caught Michael's ear. As there were no flamenco teachers in the Midwest at the time, Michael began to listen closely to the recordings available to him and reproduce on the guitar what he heard.
Michael's personal flamenco journey began in 1964 when he left his career in forestry and traveled to Spain. After three years in Spain, and countless guitar lessons from maestro Luis Maravilla, Michael returned to Minnesota, where he became known as the Midwest's greatest flamenco master. Michael is a founder of Minnesota's flamenco dance company Zorongo Flamenco and has toured internationally with Spanish dance companies.
