At Dakota County Library, we strive to create inclusive experiences for all individuals. People of all ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to participate in our All Abilities programs.
Library users on the autism spectrum or with sensory needs are invited to attend our Sensory-Friendly Early Open events. These events offer activities and resources that are mindful of sensory stimulation and take place during a time with little library traffic.

Explore books, music, movement and play in a sensory-friendly setting that welcomes children ages 3–8 of all abilities including those who have difficulty in large groups, are on the autism spectrum or are sensitive to sensory overload. One registration required per family. An adult must accompany each registered child. Siblings welcome.

American Sign Language Celebration
Explore Deaf culture and learn American Sign Language (ASL), an important method of communication between the characters of This Tender Land, through stories, games and crafts. Stories will be read in ASL by Matt Meinhardt from Metro Deaf School and voice narration and interpretation provided by American Sign Language Interpreting Services. Resources from Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and MN Resource Libraries will be available.
