This new segment of the River to River Greenway will connect to the Robert Street Underpass east across the former Thompson Oaks Golf Course owned by the City of West St. Paul.
Dakota County was awarded a Clean Water Fund grant from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources in 2020 to include significant water resources improvements and environmental cleanup activities with the construction of the segment. These improvements include:
- Restoration of a historic creek currently contained within a storm sewer pipe below the golf course
- Restoration of wetlands filled with large amounts of construction waste in the 1980s and 1990s
- Construction of a regional stormwater treatment system to treat 25 percent of the City of West St. Paul's stormwater drainage area to significantly reduce trash, oils, sediment, and phosphorus pollution to the Mississippi River
Project timeline
July–November 2022: Soil remediation and pond grading
December 2022–March 2023: Wetland restoration, weir construction, boardwalk construction
April–May 2023: Final landscape restoration and trail paving
