Lake Byllesby Regional Park's long-range plan was approved in 2018. This plan recommends the construction of a severe weather shelter within the park. Dakota County intends to construct this building on the eastside of the campground. It will serve as a severe weather shelter for campground users, visitors and staff. It will also provide additional restrooms and showers.
The project is currently in the design phase. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-2026.
