Dakota County plans to construct a trailhead facility at the end of 111th Street East in the City of Inver Grove Heights on the Mississippi River Trail. The proposed Pine Bend Bluffs Trailhead will include a covered shelter, restrooms, landscape features, small parking lot and associated utilities. The project is a partnership between Dakota County the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and City of Inver Grove Heights. See project rendering.
In order to provide adequate access to the proposed trailhead facility, 111th Street East will be reconstructed from an informal, gravel access road to a paved, two-lane access road.
The project will incorporate the Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation Districts Storm Water Management Low Impact Development Standards.
The 2016-2017 budget for the improvement project is $1,525,000, according to the 2016-2020 Capital Improvement Program.
The trailhead project will provide interpretation, picnicking, parking, water and a restroom for users of the Mississippi River Trail and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area.
