Congrats to our very own Dakota County Fleet Management for taking home the 2017 Fleet Masters Award! The Association of Equipment Management Professionals
(AEMP) and Construction Equipment Magazine recently honored the department as
the nation’s top medium sized fleet.
The department cares for the county's own 690 pieces of fleet equipment and provides services for an additional 400 belonging to other agencies. The diverse mix ranges from snowplows, construction equipment to watercraft—and everything in between. The men and women of Dakota County Fleet Management are committed to making sure county taxpayers get the most out of their equipment. They've been using telematics data since 2005 to calculate the cost per mile/hour for many of the county's vehicles. That includes looking at factors such as equipment use, operator behavior and maintenance scheduling. They've analyzed the data and gleaned ways to save; that's led to a 34 percent drop in greenhouse gas emissions and created a capital savings of more than three million dollars.
The group was honored at Tuesday's Board of Commissioner's meeting. Please join us in thanking them for their outstanding work!
