Are you doing all you can to keep your kids safe?
Every caregiver wants to answer "yes" to that question, but check yourself against the latest guidelines for safe infant sleep from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Between 2012 and 2015, the lives of 11 infants were lost in Dakota County because of unsafe sleeping conditions. We want that number to be zero, which is why we're doing all we can to spread the word about safe sleep. Follow the ABCs of safe sleep, outlined below:
A: Alone. The infant should sleep alone in a crib (NOT on a bed, couch or chair). And the child should not co-sleep with you or any other caregiver.
B: Back. Place your infant on his/her back and make sure the child is free to breathe.
C: Crib. In the child's sleep space, remove all bumpers, pillows, blankets and toys.
We covered this topic extensively in our most recent issue of the Dakota County newsletter. You can also learn on the Safe Sleep page and American Association of Pediatrics website.
