Is your community “age-friendly” to allow you—or your parents—to age in place?
Here in Dakota County, we want our residents to be able to live fulfilling and productive lives. Like communities across the country, we are experiencing the shift that comes with an aging baby boomer population. From 2010 to 2020, our population of 65+ adults will have nearly doubled. By 2030, it will have tripled.
We pride ourselves on being a premier place to live—and we know our residents love living here. We want Dakota County to be a place where people of all ages can thrive and where all residents, including older adults, can continue to be an active part of their communities. That’s why we’ve taken a look at the 11 largest cities in our county and looked at how age-friendly each community is. We’ve evaluated them on a wide range of metrics, including accessible housing, transportation options, walkability and more. We’re hoping the data will help our communities plan for the future and better serve not just older adults but all of us. Want to know how your city compared?
