In addition to restitution, victims of violent crimes may be eligible to receive reimbursement (reparations). Reimbursements are funds available from the state to assist victims who have been injured or to assist family members of murdered victims with certain costs incurred as a result of a crime, such as funeral expenses, medical care, counseling costs, lost wages and substitute child care.
The Crime Victims Reimbursement Program under the Office of Justice Programs within the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, processes all claims for reimbursement. For more information, visit the Minnesota Department of Public Safety website.
