​Every day, Minnesota public schools generate an estimated 500,000 pounds of waste,​ with nearly 80 percent of it recyclable or compostable. Without a recycling program in place, all recyclables in the trash end up in landfills or incinerators.

Dakota County has recycling requirements for public and private schools. In addition, certain schools have requirements for organics collection. Learn about requirements.

Schools in Dakota County can get free containers, labels, educational resources and technical assistance through the Dakota County School Recycling Program.
