​​​​​​​​​​​​​Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent during the summer season at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center for use in Lebanon Hills Regional Park.

​Summer rental hours

Saturday, May 27–Monday September 4:  Daily, 9 a.m.–8 p.m.  Last watercraft goes out each night at 6:30 p.m.

Equipment rental temporarily closed

Dakota County Parks has temporarily closed Schulze Lake at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan due to a potential waterborne viral outbreak.

The closure affects Schulze Beach and other water activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing. Parks has also closed its equipment rental until at least June 8.

The rest of Lebanon Hills remains unaffected by the closure.

To report a suspected waterborne illness, call the Minnesota Department of Health at 651-201-5655 or email health.foodill@state.mn.us.

Equipment available by reservation or walk-up

Online reservations are available for all equipment rentals. Reservations may be made up to seven days in advance. A limited amount of equipment will be made available for walk-in use each day.

Rental rates

  • Canoes and kayaks (includes paddles and life jackets): $10 per hour
  • Premium portaging canoes: $30 per half day (4 hours or less), $50 full day (more than 4 hours)
  • Stand up paddleboards (includes paddle and life jackets): $15 per hour
  • Late return fee (equipment returned after the reservation period is subject to a late return fee): $20​

​​​Group rates

None. There are no group discounts or reduced rates.

Group reservations

Outdoor recreational equipment may be made available for rent to organized groups by reservation only. Accommodation is based on advance notice and availability. To inquire, contact the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center at 651-554-6530.

Prem​ium portaging canoes

Rent an ultra-lightweight Wenonah canoe for a portaging adventure in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Lebanon Hills has a 5-mile (roundtrip) portaging route through the many lakes of the park.  Make the trip lighter by renting one of our 42-pound Boundary Waters outfitter-style portaging canoes​​​.  Check availability and make a reservations. 

Rental policy

Equipment is available by online reservation up to seven​ days in advance, or via walk-up.  Must be 18 years of age to reserve watercraft. Please bring a physical photo ID, which will be held during your rental.  Users under the age of 18 can use rented equipment as long as the watercraft has been reserved and checked out by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Rented equipment is for use in Lebanon Hills Regional Park only and cannot be transported offsite.

Payment & cancellation policy 

Payment is due upon reservation. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Changes to reservations can be made 24 hours or more in advance of the rental start time. For a full refund, cancellations must be made 24 hours or more in advance. Changes to reservations and cancellation refunds are not available 24 hours of less in advance.   

During severe weather conditions, watercraft rentals may be suspended for the safety of park visitors. These conditions include, but are not limited to, high winds, thunder and lightning. In the event rentals are suspended, reservations will be fully refunded. Rentals can resume after 30 minutes of lightening-free sky.

Summer equipment rental fleet

Canoes

The fleet of canoes is comprised of Weno​nah canoes and range in weight from 42-70 pounds. New in 2021, we are offering two ultra-light canoes exclusively for portaging throughout the park.  These new models weigh just 42 pounds and are also fitted with portage pads to easily carry from lake to lake. The lighter models are a great option for portaging on our 5-mile water trail and portage route​. ​

Canoes can seat up to four people (two paddlers and two passengers), not to exceed the manufacturers weight capacity of 1,000 pounds.

Rental rate includes paddles and lifejackets. Lifejackets are required.

Kaya​ks

Solo kayaks
The fleet of solo kayaks is comprised of Perception Access (sit on-top) and Perception Prodigy (sit-in cockpit) models.

Access models weigh 55 pounds, are designed for one paddler and have a weight capacity of 300 pounds. A child may accompany the user in the kayak, not to exceed the weight capacity of 300 pounds.

Prodigy models weigh 54 pounds, are designed for one paddler and have a weight capacity of 350 pounds. A child may accompany the user in the kayak, not to exceed the weight capacity of 3​50 pounds.

Portaging carts available for check out at no additional fee for easy portaging on our five-mile water trail with portage trail. Rental rate includes paddle and lifejackets.  Lifejackets are required.

Tandem kayaks
The fleet of tandem kayaks is comprised of Perception Cove models and weigh 71 pounds. Tandem kayaks are designed for two paddlers and have a weight capacity of 550 pounds. A child may accompany the users in the kayak, not to exceed the weight capacity of 550 pounds.

Tandem kayaks can be adjusted to be used as a solo kayak with one paddler as requested.

Stand up paddleboards

The fleet of stand up paddleboards is comprised of BIC-Sport models and weigh 40 pounds. Stand up paddleboards are designed for one paddler and have a weight capacity of 285 pounds.  A child may accompany the user on the same board not to exceed the manufacturers weight capacity of 285 pounds.

Paddleboards are for use on Schulze Lake only and are not permitted on the water trail and portage route. Rental rate includes paddle and lifejackets.  Lifejackets are required.

Pets

Pets are permitted to ride in canoes and kayaks. Pets must be leashed at all times and not be tethered to the watercraft. Pets are not permitted on the paddleboards.

Accessories

Dry boxes are available upon request at no cost with any watercraft rental (dry boxes float and are large enough to contain car keys and a cell phone).

Fishing equipment

Fishing equipment is available to lend free of charge.

Live bait 

A small variety of live bait is available for purchase inside the equipment rental office.
