​Dad with two kids on fishing pier.Summer fishing and winter ice fishing are popular sports in Minnesota.  Varieties of fish from sunfish to northern pike are located in select lakes in Dakota County Parks.

Locations for fishing

  • Lake Byllesby, Lake Byllesby Regional Park
  • Holland Lake, Lebanon Hills Regional Park
  • McDonough Lake, Lebanon Hills Regional Park
  • Trout Brook & Cannon River, Miesville Ravine Park Reserve
  • Thompson Lake, Thompson County Park

Locations for ice fishing

  • Lake Byllesby, Lake Byllesby Regional Park
  • Holland Lake, Lebanon Hills Regional Park
  • Schulze Lake, Lebanon Hills Regional Park

Trout ​fishing

Holland Lake is not a designated trout lake. You do not need a trout stamp to fish there, but anyone trying to catch trout or keeping a trout you catch, must have a trout stamp.

Trout Brook is a designated trout stream, and a trout stamp is required for anglers. Find out more about Trout Brook. 

Anglers fishing the Cannon River in Dakota County do not need a trout stamp unless they are trying to catch trout or keeping a trout they catch.

Fish stocking

The Minnesota DNR periodically stocks fish in Holland Lake, McDonough Lake and Thompson Lake.

Fish consumption advisories

Fish consumption advisories are in place for Thompson Lake, Holland Lake, McDonough Lake, Lake Byllesby, and Schulze Lake.
