Waterfowl Hunting

waterfowl2.jpgDakota County offers parking permits for 2014 waterfowl hunting access from Bud’s Landing in Spring Lake Park Reserve to the Spring Lake Islands Wildlife Management Area. Bud’s Landing is located on the Mississippi River and can be accessed from the far north end of Fischer Avenue in Nininger Township.

Daily parking permits available
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 2, you can purchase a waterfowl parking permit that will grant you access to parking at Bud’s Landing.

There will be nine parking permits available each day on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Permits are only valid for the specific vehicle that is described in the permit application.

Launch opens Sept. 6
The launch will be open all days of the goose and waterfowl hunting seasons until the lake freezes or Dec. 31.

Cost: $10 plus sales tax.

Season dates

  • Early Goose Season:  Sept. 6–22
  • Youth Waterfowl Day:  Sept. 13
  • Waterfowl Season:  Sept. 27–29, Oct. 11–Dec. 6
  • Goose Season:  Sept. 27–29, Oct. 11–Jan. 5

Changes for 2014

  • Purchasing of permits can now be made until midnight prior to the date they will be used.
  • Hours for parking are now 3 a.m. to 10 p.m.


From the east:  Drive west from the Hastings city limits on State Highway 55 for 3 miles, turn right on Pine Bend Trail for 1 mile, and then turn right again onto Fischer Avenue. 

From the west:  Drive east from Highway 52 turning onto  State Highway 55 for 1 mile, turn left on Pine Bend Trail for 2 miles, and then turn left onto Fischer Avenue.
