Celebrate National Poetry month by joining us for a unique series of poetry classes that combine writing with creative arts and freeing activities, under the guidance of COMPAS teaching artist Dralandra Larkins. A Minnesota legacy series.
About the artist
Dralandra Larkins is an award-winning spoken-word poet, multi-genre writer and audiobook author of “Before I Lie" (2025). She is a recipient of the Loft Literary Center's Teaching Artist Fellowship, the Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Individuals Grant and Springboard for the Arts' Weathering Together artist grant. She's performed for the NAACP, Button Poetry, Minnesota State Capitol, Minnesota Black Business Ball and the Minnesota Black Authors Expo. Her work weaves together rhythm, intimacy and vulnerability to create a haven for healing rooted in her background as a social worker.Poetic Plates: The Art of Letting Go
Explore self-expression and vulnerability through a meditative writing exercise inspired by oracle cards and writing prompts. Learn foundational poetic devices and writing techniques to process negative emotions. Create an intuitive poem and transfer it onto a glass plate using acrylic paint or permanent markers. Partake in a therapeutic plate smashing exercise to symbolize breaking free from limitations and fears. Presented by COMPAS teaching artist Dralandra Larkins. Registration required. For adults.

Planting Poetic Affirmations
Join us for this hands-on workshop to plant poetic seeds of renewal and prosperity for yourself. Participate in a guided meditative writing exercise using oracle cards to create a personalized affirmation poem. In small groups, decorate a plant pot using acrylic paint.
