Here are some things to keep in mind when planning a birthday party with Dakota County Parks.
COVID- 19 procedures
All programs during the COVID-19 pandemic are following current public health guidelines and are subject to change or cancellation. Programs are conducted entirely outdoors. Please read the
COVID -19 Parks Program Handbook for additional protocols for in-person programs. All visitors ages 2 and up are required to wear a mask while inside park buildings.
Food
Currently, no eating or drinking indoors allowed. We do have a reserved space outside for participants to use if you wish to have food or drink. Party food and drinks are the responsibility of the party organizer. Bring a cooler to store beverages, ice cream, cake, etc. (A refrigerator or freezer is not available.) There will be time after the park naturalist's activity for refreshments; please no eating or drinking during the activity.
Decorations
Party decorations are optional. If you choose to use decorations, consider using decorations that minimize waste and prevent damage to the environment whenever possible.
Please note the following are not allowed: throwing confetti or rice; using tape on the walls, tables or chairs; or tethering or releasing balloons outdoors.
Dress appropriately
Parties include activities inside and outside. To make your party most enjoyable, all participants (including chaperones) should dress for the weather, including hiking boots or sturdy shoes (no open-toed sandals or dress shoes) rain gear, hats, snow pants, gloves, etc.
Chaperones
Up to 15 children are allowed. Adult chaperones at the ratio of 1 adult per 10 children are required. Group leaders or chaperones may be asked to help with party preparation, logistics and supervision. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Arrival
You may arrive for set-up up to one-half hour before your party.
Gifts
You may store gifts in a private area during your party. Dakota County staff is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Waste reduction tip: Make gift wrap out of old posters, maps, comics, home sewn cloth bags, magazine or catalog pages, handkerchiefs, T-shirts or other clothing item that can double as part of the gift.
Organizer responsibilities
The party organizer is responsible for refreshments, favors, gifts and decorations. In addition, the party organizer is responsible for returning the Discovery Room to its original condition immediately following the party. An additional cleaning fee will be assessed to the party organizer if cleaning is not completed.
