Commercial use means any activity associated with trade, occupation, profession, business or franchise. It doesn't include activities conducted on the county's behalf or with the county.
Dakota County allows commercial use within the parks. A permit is required. Fees may apply and will be assessed as part of permit application review.
When to get a permit
Any person or entity using the parks and greenways for any financial gain is considered commercial use. The following are examples:
- Professional photography and filming (view Photography Permit)
- Using park space to instruct or convene a class or group
- Public assemblies or events involving 50 or more people
- Product demonstrations
- Sale, rental or promotion of merchandise or service
- Soliciting, sales and peddling of goods
- Food and beverage sales
- Flying unmanned aerial vehicles or drones (view Drone Permit)
- Exposure, distribution, placement of signage, advertisements, notices, posters or displays
Obtaining a permit
Apply for a Commercial Use Permit. Allow at least two weeks for review.
