2040 Transportation Plan
The Dakota County 2040 Transportation Plan was developed as part of the Dakota County 2040 Comprehensive Plan (DC2040). The plan is a guide to maintain and improve the transportation system while aligning with DC2040 land use goals and objectives. It provides detailed definition and guidance in determining the county transportation priorities, goals, strategies and policies.
The plan also identifies the county's long-term investment needs and is a basis in the development of the county's annual Capital Improvement Program. Download the 2040 Transportation Plan.
The following recently-completed county studies and surveys were incorporated within the Transportation Plan:
Capital Improvement Plan
Dakota County uses a five-year Capital Improvement Plan to prepare for future road construction projects. It implements policies, strategies and investment levels identified in the 2030 Transportation Plan. The yearly plans are available on the Budget and Financial Reports page.
Transportation sales and use tax projects
Dakota County implemented a quarter-cent sales tax and $20 excise tax on new vehicle sales to fund much needed Dakota County transit and transportation projects.
A list of eligible transportation projects is available. These projects are eligible for the use of the tax, but does not ensure the project will be completed. The list may be amended by the Board of Commissioners following a public hearing.
