Mississippi River Long-Range Plan

Page Content

The Mississippi River Greenway runs for 28 miles along the Mississippi River from St. Paul to Hastings. It provides scenic views of the river and connections to local parks, trails and other community destinations.

To guide investment on the greenway, Dakota County is launching long-range plan for the next 20 years.

This planning effort will establish a modern vision for the corridor.

  • Strengthen community connections along the greenway
  • Document existing and planned investments
  • Activate programming and events
  • Enhance river access and recreational opportunities
  • Position projects for external funding and investment

Project timeline

  • June-July 2025: Project kickoff
  • July-October 2025: Corridor analysis
  • August 2025-January-2026: Public engagement
