The library is subject to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13 and Minnesota Rules Chapter 1205 (MGDPA).
Under the MGDPA, data in library card applications (except an applicant's name), and data that link a patron's name with materials requested or borrowed or a specific subject about which a patron has requested information or materials, are private. Private library data can be accessed only by the data subject, library personnel, or pursuant to a court order.
For a patron under age 18, private library data can also be accessed by the individual's parent(s) unless the patron requests in writing that the library deny parental access to the data. To request that parental access to private library data be denied, a minor patron must complete and submit a Data Privacy Request Form to
library staff, who will determine whether to grant the request.
If you wish to request data from the Library, including data on you, please review Dakota County's Data Practices for information about how to do so.
