The Minnesota River Greenway is along the south side of the Minnesota River in Burnsville. The trail is in place between Interstate 35W and Cedar Avenue. Trail users can park at the Minnesota Riverfront Park Trailhead and enjoy views of the Minnesota River and Black Dog Lake (part of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge). The trail takes users by the Xcel Energy Black Dog Power Plant.
Black Dog Segment closed
The Black Dog Segment of the Minnesota River Greenway is closed due to flooding. The segment begins in Burnsville near the Interstate 35W bridge crossing and ends at the Cedar Nicols Trailhead in Eagan. The segment is expected to remain closed until cleanup and repairs are completed. The start of the trail clean-up effort was delayed until after Labor Day. Crews have started working on debris clean up and sediment removal. Trail reopening is anticipated at the end of September.
Please follow trail closure signage. Do not attempt to use the trail.
