The Minnesota River Greenway is along the south side of the Minnesota River in Burnsville. The trail is in place between Interstate 35W and Cedar Avenue. Trail users can park at the Minnesota Riverfront Park Trailhead and enjoy views of the Minnesota River and Black Dog Lake (part of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge). The trail takes users by the Xcel Energy Black Dog Power Plant.
Nicols Road closure
From January -March 2025, Nicols Road will be closed to vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic, impacting access to the Cedar-Nicols Trailhead. The Minnesota River Greenway will remain open during the road closure. Trail users can access the greenway at the Minnesota Riverfront Park Trailhead.
