Dakota County’s newest park, 456-acre Whitetail Woods Regional Park, is located in Empire Township in the center of Dakota County, one mile north of the Vermillion River.
The park is bordered by the Vermillion Highlands Modified Wildlife Management Area to the east and the Vermillion River Wildlife and Aquatic Management areas to the south. Privately owned property lies directly north of the park. The University of Minnesota’s UMORE Park is located to the northeast and east of the park.
Biscayne Avenue temporarily closed
Biscayne Avenue from County Road 46 to 170th Street will be closed until the end of May. From the north, park users should use Highway 3 southbound to 170th Street eastbound (turn left). Then turn right onto Station Trail. See map.
Prescribed burns from end of March through May 31
Dakota County Parks will be conducting prescribed burns at Whitetail Woods Regional Park as conditions allow. Prescribed burns are controlled fires that are used to improve the growth of native vegetation, including trees, shrubs, grasses and wildflowers. The exact times of the burns cannot be determined more than a day in advance due to weather conditions.
