Apply for benefits online
Go to the MNBenefits website to apply online for food, cash, emergency and child care assistance. This includes:
- Food Support (SNAP)
- Emergency Assistance
- Housing Support (formerly called Group Residential Housing)
- Child Care Assistance
- Cash programs, such as:
- Diversionary Work Program (DWP)
- General Assistance (GA)
- MN Family Investment Program (MFIP)

Due to high application volumes, Dakota County will be extending interview times outside of regular business hours (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.). If your application requires an interview, we may call you during evenings or weekends to complete an interview.

Protect yourself from scams
Unfortunately, scammers are taking advantage of the stress and uncertainty that came with the federal shutdown. Please protect yourself and your benefits by staying alert for scams.
What to watch for:
- Pay attention to card readers. If it is loose, off-center or parts of it wiggle, don't put your card there.
- Change your EBT PIN frequently. Especially if you notice something suspicious after using a card reader.
- Fake text messages, letters or calls asking for your EBT card number, PIN or personal details.
- Promises to speed up or release your benefits for a fee.
- Links in texts or emails that ask you to log in or update your information.
- Text messages or phone calls asking you to repay benefits.
Remember:
- Do not share your EBT card number or PIN with anyone.
- If you get a suspicious message, don't respond or click any links.
If you think you may have been scammed, contact law enforcement or call your county or Tribal human services office right away. Report your EBT card lost or stolen by calling ebtEDGE customer service at 888-997-2227.
