The Dakota County Sheriff's Office offers fingerprinting to the general public. We do not fingerprint PCAs for the Department of Human Services NetStudy or juveniles for Community Corrections.
For applicant prints, the county uses standard FD-258 fingerprint cards and FBI-certified hardware. There are three types of services available. Select the correct option when scheduling your appointment:
- Court-ordered bookings – Defendant in a court case where a booking order has been issued. You likely received an official letter for booking from courts or probation. Call for confirmation if you feel you have already been fingerprinted on this charge.
- Dakota County contractors and employees – For contractors, applicants and staff who must complete a background before work or service.
- General public – All other needs for fingerprinting services. Such as:
- Adoption
- Employment qualification
- Permit to carry
- Medical or teaching license requirements

Fingerprinting appointments
Appointments for fingerprinting preferred. Walk-ins may be available but are not guaranteed. Schedule an appointment ahead of time as hours and availability vary. If you think you have been fingerprinted before, call us for confirmation. New charges require new fingerprints.
Juvenile fingerprints are completed through Community Corrections. You will need to call the phone number listed on your court paperwork. Defendants attending a court appearance take priority over all other fingerprint services.
An email is required to set up an appointment. If you don't have an email address or have questions, please call 651-438-4805. If we don't answer, please leave a detailed voicemail for us to return your phone call.
If you need assistance, please call 651-438-4805 or email dcsofingerprinting@co.dakota.mn.us
