Troy Michael Mitteness, 58, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following the conviction of premeditated first-degree murder and intentional second-degree murder, Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced.
The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Richelle M. Wahi. Mitteness was found guilty by a jury on Aug. 13 for the murder and dismemberment of his 82-year-old mother, Sandra Viola Mitteness.
“I want to extend my gratitude to everyone involved in this case, particularly the jurors who were exposed to and had to consider some very grisly facts," said County Attorney Keena. “I'm deeply appreciative of your verdict and hard work throughout the trial."
Mitteness remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
