Mehdi Badaoui, 52 of Farmington, was charged* today with one count of attempted murder in the first degree (premeditated) and one count of attempted murder in the second degree (with intent, not premeditated), announced Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena.
As stated in the criminal complaint, Farmington Police Department was called to a residence at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, on a report of a domestic assault. Officers were told there was a woman in the home who was stabbed and could not move.
A witness within the residence led the officers to a bedroom where the victim, the wife of Badaoui, was lying on her side in a pool of blood. While officers were treating the victim, they found a series of stab wounds, including a wound that needed a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
Mr. Badaoui — who had blood on his hand — was located in the garage and taken into custody.
The witness reported that she had awoke that morning to yelling and observed Badaoui stab the victim, drag her through the kitchen and into the bedroom. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Medical staff indicated 10 stab wounds were found.
Officers later recovered a bloodied pocketknife from the kitchen counter.
“The facts in this case are shocking and the terror the victim endured is unthinkable," said County Attorney Keena. “I'm grateful to the Farmington Police Department and the first responders who provided life-saving aid. My thoughts continue to be with the victim as she recovers."
Mr. Badaoui is currently in custody at the Dakota County Jail. Bail was set in the amount is $1 million without conditions ($750,000 with conditions) by Judge Christopher Lehmann. The court also issued a domestic abuse no contact order (DANCO). Mr. Badaoui's next court appearance is scheduled for May 1 at 9 a.m. in Hastings.
